Literary artists turn to visual art for inspiration all the time.

So for the annual highly-anticipated Poets & Writers “Inspiration” issue, I wrote about twelve photographs I’m obsessed with.

The challenge: the images won’t be pictured, so describe each image vividly enough that readers can imagine them and be moved.

I wrote a lyrical listicle that used emotions, culture, and questions and turned them into open doors for each photograph and beyond.
